Chateau Rieussec is synonomous with great sweet wines; now part of the Chateau Lafite stable, continued investment has been guaranteed and the wines continue to impress. The 2008 vintage in Sauternes was very good if not exceptional, as it was in 2007.. the growing seasons of 2007 and 2008, there is a significant difference between the resulting wines, for tangibly the 2008s do not have the same level of botrytis, weight or concentration. But dismiss the 2008s at your peril: there are a cluster of superb, steely Sauternes imbued with a thrilling sense of nervosité and precision. Neal Martin The Wine Advocate. Its association with Lafite has created a false market. Effectively a surplus of stock, taken in liew of en primeur allocations of the first growth claret, has reduced the prices to almost half of the release price. There is no question that this is an absolute bargain.
