Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Domaine des Sénéchaux 2005
2005 Domaine des Sénéchaux Chateauneuf du Pape, from one of the oldest domaines in the Southern Rhône's most celebrated appellation.
'shows the classic concoction of garrigue, ground pepper, lavender, and plenty of kirsch. It is dense, full-bodied, and a very strong effort, with a bit more noticeable tannin and acidity than in the more opulent, fleshy 2006. Both are outstanding efforts. 90/100' Robert Parker
Domaine des Sénéchaux is among the region’s oldest wineries. With vines planted here since the XIV century, it’s a historic producer of some of Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s greatest wines. It gets its name from one of the estate’s principal plots, located in the “Bois Sénéchaux” neighbourhood – where the Sénéchaux representatives of the King’s council used to meet. For this wine, Syrah and Mourvèdre are aged for a year in barrel, whilst Grenache is aged in small vats before blending. It’s rich and complex. This was bottled for UK retailer Marks & Spencer.
