A friendly, high-toned white, with tarragon, white peach and quinine notes, backed by a hint of lemon sherbet on the finish. Marsanne, Ugni Blanc, Clairette and Bourboulenc.

There's always fish at the quaint little port of Cassis, so Clos Ste. Magdeleine created a wine for the local catch of the day. Thank goodness! Recommended with Marsanne-based white for fish soups and stews--the more different kinds of sea critters the better--made with plenty of tomato, Provençal herbs and maybe some fennel. Particularly fine and floral in 2011.

Famille Sack's Art Deco Château is beautifully situated au bord de la mer, on the outskirts of the pretty fishing village of Cassis. We can only forgive vigneron François and his son Jonathan this idyllic existence because they craft the delicious Clos Sainte Magdeleine Cassis white wine from an unusual blend of Marsanne, Clairette and Ugni Blanc.

Aromas of wild herbs and a whiff of Provençal pine precede an alluring citrus palate, with an attractive, slightly oily finish. The best wine to pair with fish.
